St Christophers Cycling Club
St Christophers 75 Years
The club was originally called Glasgow St. Christopher's in line with lots of other St. Christopher's clubs the length and breadth of the United Kingdom.
The club was formed in 1935 and up until very recently the club had a member ( Willlie Fox) who attended the very first meeting. Sadly Willie passed away a few years ago.
For many a long year the club had various sections that made up the club. There was a ladies section, a racing section and a touring section. Youth hostels provided accomodation when members would disappear on a Saturday morning and even a Friday night in high summer and not return home till Sunday evening exhausted but happy. Sadly those days are gone now, however the current members do their best to keep the dream alive with Sunday social runs once a month. The club have a very strong time trialling fraternity that compete in races all over Scotland. Only a few members compete in any road racing. Over the yearsthe club have produced some well known names in Scottish cycling. There was the Rafferty brothers, John and Willie, Jack Roberstson and his son Alan, Jim Docherty and Mke Devlin still time trialling at 70
The club have been based in East Kilbride for a good few years now are well known for holding their popular Auldhouse league weekly time trials. This event is open to all riders and has attracted a keen interest in the area. Indeed we have had riders from 16 to 65, juniors, ladies, father and son and husband and wife. All in all in recent years the club has been going from strength to strength so here's to the next 75 years
