A big congatulations to the club's only representative in the 100 mile TT championships. Derek McMillan flew the flag for St. Christophers and did us proud. His time of 4 hours 31 minutes and 8 seconds was good enough for 14th spot, not bad considering it was his first attempt.
Well done Derek, the weekly Tuesday night TT will just be a doddle now!!!

| 32 | Thu, Aug 5th 2010, 13:47 | Andy was robbed | Well Done to Andy Wilson who was robbed of a prize at the Stirling Wheelers 10 TT on Wednesday night. Andy done a great ride in very windy conditions and should of came 1st in his category however they forgot to subtract Andy's start time from his finishing time, therefore adding 3 minutes. Friends, Romans, Club members lend me your ear. There is a club meeting on Thursday 26th August at the Auldhouse Arms. The time is 7.30pm and the topics we need to resolve include, 75th Annversary run and lunch/dinner and the dishing out of tasks to fill the web pages up. Of course any other business that pops up. ndY Wilson has promised to pick up the tab.......only kiddin' Hope to see you all there |

There is a club meeting scheduled for Thursday 26th August. The venue is the Auldhouse Arms at 7.30pm and topics will be the 75th Anniversary run and lunch/dinner. Also the filling in of the blank web pages and whatever else arises. Hope to see you all there |

Just a quick run through of the meeting held on Thursday 26th August 1. Hill climb moved to 10th October 2. Glenmarnock 10 on 19th September, club riders welcome to support their event seeing they support ours. 3. Proposed ride and lunch to celbrate 75 years, full details to folllow. 4. Web pages that need to be filled ie club history etc to be completed

Just to show that St. Christies kept the best till last, there were some great times by club memebers who rode this event. The 10 took place down at Westferry and a perfect evening saw some very happy riders at the finish. Andy Wilson was the first club rider back with an almighty 25.25, yes that's right I said 25.25. Mike Devlin also did a 26.49 not bad considering he's 70 next year. Last but not least was Colin Meikle with a fantastic 24.27. Well done to all riders, that just leaves you all to participate in the Freuchie 50 to decide the club champion. |

Congratulations to Ian Hughes who became the Auldhouse League champion 2010 on the very last evening. Ian managed to hold of a concerted effort from Derek McMillan who was second and Colin Meikle who took third spot. Well done Ian, a worthy champion |

| 39 | Wed, Sep 15th 2010, 21:20 | He’s lost it, he’s finally lost it | He’s lost it, he’s finally lost it – was the yells of the day Possibly this was true, or Colin G has a sadistic streak in him that nobody knew about, whatever the case this was a run an’ a half. The Scottish rock climbing fraternity have the famous ‘Etive Slabs’ whilst us cyclists have the ‘Talla Wall’ – even the mention of such sends shivers through the calves of many a tough roadie. As the purple clad gang clustered within the sleepy hamlet of Crawford, many started to off-load their bikes from the car, whilst Colin G brought out his crampons, ropes and climbing irons – this should have been an early indication as to what he had planned. The run started well, with the bunch heading out and into the dark depth of South Lanarkshire before touching Dumfriesshire and then on to the Border country. Bang on cue, Colin G’s weak-bladder required the first refreshment stop – this is turning into a common theme. The group turned and headed up the first climb of the day, the Devil’s Beef Tub, sticking together most of the way up. There defiantly was a lack of breakaways on the day; could it be due to the absence of Colin M? Once we gained height on the Tub, Andy turned form cyclist to ‘tour guide’ and the club run began to resemble an Urquhart Tour (not because of the blue-rinse brigade, although Mandy’s perm did have a blue tinge to it). “Did you know that a Covenanter jumped down the Tub to escape death, and that there is a van on its roof at the bottom” – however, I’m not sure if the two were related. Our resident Tour Guide then pointed out the source of the Tweed – a muddy field! It wasn’t long before we turned and headed on to the single-track road heading towards the ever-anticipated ‘Talla Wall’. By this point, legs were beginning to quiver and some in the group were getting itchy on the saddle – a sure sign that more chamois cream should have been applied. As we approached the now dreaded ‘Talla Wall’ Colin G’s absence from the front was noted – was this due to the potential lynching he was going to get? In front was the road (or wall) heading up, up and up! Looking at the road clinging on to the hillside it appeared to be laughing at us taunting and teasing like a schoolyard bully. Inevitably, the group split with Gary heading off up the climb showing no fear over the unknown. Colin G gave chase, with a pace, resembling a slug climbing up a wall, whilst the rest unpacked their climbing boots and started to walk. Alan Mc thought he was going to make it until he looked up and saw Colin G swaggering about on the road ahead, suffering from altitude sickness, but still on his bike to the end like Tommy Simpson. Mandy made no comment at the top as to the toughness of the climb – silence was a clear indication as to her thoughts. At the top, the flock were gathered-up for the road down to the café stop at St Mary’s Loch, with the commencement of the Urquhart Tour again. The group headed back towards Crawford through Moffat and up the climb towards the Beattock Summit. On the long drag the group split forming a distinct pattern at the front with Alan C and Gary leading up the climb. It wasn’t until the final 10 miles that the pace picked up, with the ‘Talla Wall’ now a distant memory, what is Colin G plotting next…! | View Edit |

We leave Calderglen at 9.30am go through Strathaven/Sandford and Kirkmuirhill before dropping into the Clyde Valley. We then cycle along the valley to Chatelherault for lunch. | 43 | Thu, Oct 14th 2010, 21:40 | Hail, rain and sunshine | Hail, rain and sunshine, just a typical day in the Trossachs A handful of the ‘Wet purple clad gang’ made it out on this month’s club run. We set off from the glorious setting of Stirling, the majestic Stirling Castle and Wallace Monument providing the perfect backdrop with the water-drenched skies looming above. It was like a scene straight out of ‘Braveheart’. The battle was ready to commence, troops gathering, skies rumbling with the clouds filling up ready to cry for the fallen masses. It really made you feel proud to be Scottish. ‘Freedom’ was the cry from the purple clad gang as we set off into battle – and a battle it was! As we headed out over the river and into the Stirlingshire countryside, the heavens opened, the rain fell like arrows from the English longbow, hitting their target again and again, but we were not prepared to fall. Within minutes we were all soaked through, that brave, macho appearance we set off with quickly vanished to be replaced with the ‘droont rat’ look. Droont we were, but we carried on towards our destination, a lonely little hill top, a vantage point over the battlefield to watch the masses of the Tour de Trossachs hurtle on past. We showed our loyal allegiance to the four (now three) club members taking part in the most historic event of the Scottish racing calendar. What a day to be a cyclist, a fighter in the eyes of other road users, a true Scotsman battling to the end. I can now see why Miller, a past winner of the Tour de Trossachs took to the saddle and set off for the sunny land of the old alliance (France) we were all seriously thinking the same. On route to our command post, internal battles were had, with a mass sprint to the Thornhill village sign. This round was won by Colin G, possibly because he was the only one who knew where the sign was…! As we passed through the sleeping village, the residents unaware of the great battle approaching from Callander, with the army of lycra-clad warriors stamping over the ‘Dukes Pass’, we pushed on to our strategic target, that vantage point, our very own command post. The next personal battle, apart from the rain and cold was up the hill of the B822. Colin M lead the troops all the way to the top, showing his colours for the forthcoming Hill Climb competition. The brave St Chris warriors now stood on top of their vantage point looking down over the Tour battlefield like Roman Sentinels, a-washed with the rain from their previous battles on the road. No shelter was to be had, whilst Mandy still tucked-up in bed had sent Alan C out as her deputy, sending updates on the days cycling events from the comfort of the duvet. First to pass, were the ladies, with Colin M showing his past chat-up skills on the dance-floor during the 70s shouting out each of their names – ‘Come on Mari’ ‘Keep going Christine’ and so he went on, in his element. The first bunch of riders that came past were all soaked through with their eyes focused on the climb, whilst the cheery figure of Carlos Riise approached with not just a smile, but also a ‘Hello’ – respect to that man! Our own fellow club members came past one after the other, starting with Andy and then Jim (see pictures – as a picture tells a thousand words), closely followed by Derek – we were caught-out with Derek’s fast assent hence no picture (sorry). The St Chris clan then left their post to head back towards Kippen for coffee, cold and wet we had the climb of the Braes of Greenock to warm us up and as such we clung together like limpets to a coastal rock, keeping out of the chill. Once within sight of the café, Colin M followed by Allan C pushed on up the hill in full flight for the hot cuppa that awaited the victor. Once coffee was over it was back to Stirling, to the start of this epic adventure, this battle against nature, a battle that Colin G failed as when nature called, Colin G had to answer…again and again! Heading along the 10 mile stretch of the A811 back to Stirling the St Chris clan were in full flight, working hard like a well-oiled steam engine – releasing steam like one too. The speed was simple eye-watering, as was the sweaty-stench that was billowing off our backs. We were charging home like the heavy-hoofed Calvary, clearing the traffic like toy solders under attack from a heavy-handed kid. As the smell of victory neared, the bunch began to charge. The first sign went past like a blur before hitting the series of roundabouts that marked the entrance to Stirling, our cars, clean cloths – HEAT. The sprinters swelled at the front, galloping past those that had literally run out steam, Alan Mc made a brave attempt, but was blown away by Colin G – the need for heat and the toilet was just too much to withstand that shout of ‘Freedom’ could be heard again under the foot of Stirling Castle. | View Edit |

Well a cold frosty morning did not deter the brave souls who took part in the anniversary run. A good route through through the lanes soon heated everyone up. A gentle jaunt down to the outskirts of Lanark and along the Clyde valley where a 3 course meal was waiting. Ian Hughes was hungry when we left E/K so I don't know how he survived till Hamilton. Anyhow it was good to see some well kent faces when we arrived at Chatelherault Inn. The only diadvantage about the meal was having to lug all that extra weight up the hills out of Hamilton back to E/K, I know that was my excuse for a pitiful pace up the final hill.
